One of the most fascinating discussions to date has to be the emergence of Web 3.0….which translates to Fashion 3.0 for those of use involved in online fashion. I’ve always been one of those people who obsess over what’s coming next or what’s going to happen next in technology.
The funny thing is – if you are reading this, most likely you have a huge challenge in front of you. You have to keep up with Fashion and Technology…the two fastest changing industries in the world. With the emergence of Web 3.0, understanding is an important step in keeping up.
To understand what Fashion 3.0 is you need to understand what Fashion 2.0 is. Fashion 2.0, like Web 2.0, was about the user. For the first time since the introduction of the internet, what consumers and enthusiast thought about fashion mattered almost more that magazine editors. Fashion 2.0 was about social networking, but it was also about collaboration with those in the industry. Some may argue that it was about collaborating with just about everyone! As a matter of fact, many times in Fashion 2.0 you could easily confuse who created the site and added content with who was using the site. Fashion 2.0 is about SEO, Style Hive, Kaboodle, Polyvore, fashion Blogs, etc.
Fashion 3.0, like Web 3.0, is the next generation of online fashion and according to experts, should occur between now and 2020. Fashion 3.0 consist of taking everything we learned and developed from Fashion 2.0 and making web applications that are more intelligent. Searching for and finding your targeted consumer base will become an exact science, meaning you will be able to focus on them and find them online. In Fashion 2.0 you knew where your users where (on Facebook, on Twitter) but it was hard to reach them. Soon, utilizing intelligent web applications like Google Wave and Twibes, will allow you to reach your customers and targeted audience profile.
Sramna Mitra has an amazing article series about Web 3.0 as well as Women & Web 3.0.
